The 2018 Bonarda El Enemigo comes from east Mendoza. It has a 15% dash of Cabernet Franc and was aged for 15 months in old foudres. Garnet red with purple flecks, the nose offers raspberry and ash with hints of jalapeno that bring greater outline and depth to the aromas. Beginning expansively on the palate, the flow then tightens up with moderate freshness and a terse, tacky texture. The Franc adds grip and linearity before the long finish.

The aromatic and floral 2018 Bonarda also has 15% Cabernet Franc blended with the Bonarda, which might explain the very different profile when tasted next to the other four single-vineyard Bonardas. It's very fresh, herbal and fine-grained, very elegant and with some fine tannins. The Bonarda comes from El Mirador in Rivadavia but feels completely different from the bottling of the pure Bonarda from the same vintage. It matured in ancient oak vats for 15 months.

Big, rich and well-spiced, with structured dark fruit flavors that feature dried savory spice accents. Underbrush notes line the minerally finish. Drink now through 2025.

The bouquet of this well-crafted wine is loaded with flowers, rosemary, strawberry and cherry aromas. Medium in weight, it delivers plenty of red fruit flavors with a touch of spice and toasted oak. Silky tannins and nice acidity make the wine very enjoyable. It's a good and delicious example of what Bonarda wines can offer.
